HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Ithembalabantu Community Resource Centres (IL) is a non-profit and a membership-based network of Community Resource Centres or Advice Offices that was established in September 2004. It is currently formed by 9 Community Resource Centres (CRCs)I operating in different communities in EthekwiniMunicipality area in KwaZulu-Natal.
The network’s purpose is to participate with its members in promoting justice, development, and fighting HIV and AIDS, by creating an enabling environment and working towards an AIDS free generation. This purpose is carried out through providing legal advice, organising and facilitating workshops, networking with similarly minded organisations, providing resources and by encouraging support groups, individuals, churches and schools to develop the capacities of their members and increase the effectiveness of their work.
The source of strength of Ithembalabantu is derived from its members, through support, skills, experience and established relationships with beneficiary communities and donors.

VISION STATEMENT
At the level of Ithembalabantu:-
Ithembalabantu has capacity and capabilities to support Community Resource Centres in their endeavors to bring about change in the lives of their respective communities. It responds to external and internal contexts’ challenges effectively.
At the level of beneficiaries:-
Communities in and around eThekwini are empowered to access their rights and their livelihoods have improved.
MISSION STATEMENT
Ithembalabantu is a membership based organization of Community Resource Centers. It exists to empower, support and capacitate member Community Resource Centers through:- - Resource Mobilisation
- Capacity Building
- Lobbying and Advocacy and
- Enabling a networking platform for Community Resource Centers

ITHEMBALABANTU PROGRAMMESCapacity Building This programme is aimed at: - Conducting skills audit to members,
- Provide members with relevant skills,
- Negotiate with training institutions to provide us with training that suit our needs (tailor-made).
Resource Mobilisation
This programme is aimed at:
- Identification of possible donors or partners,
- Workshops/trainings for members on Resource Mobilisation,
- Supporting members in organising local fundraising events,
- Raise and administer funds for members.
Lobbying and Advocacy
This programme is aimed at:
- Collect and analyse data from members and identify trends on case work.
- Engage in strategic partnership with Chapter 9 institutions,
- Create an enabling environment for members to share information,
- Collaborate with other NGOs in lobbying campaigns.
MEMBERS PROGRAMMES
Social Justice
- Provide information on human rights, labour, social security, family issues and problems that are encountered by the community.
- One on one legal advice on different issues affecting the community or individuals.
- Run and organise workshops or trainings on social justice issues.
HIV/AIDS
- Ongoing education and awareness on HIV/AIDS, human rights and law.
- Provide continuous counselling and support to infected and affected members of the family.
- Assist infected and affected members of the community as well as orphans due to HIV/AIDS in accessing state grants.
Community/Economic Development
- Provide information on poverty alleviation programs.
- Assist communities in initiating income generation projects.
- Train communities in business management, basic fundraising and financial management.
