Black Sash launches media campaign on Social Relief of Distress

The Black Sash has embarked on a media campaign to educate households and individuals facing hardship about the Social Relief of Distress award. It follows an  announcement by Social Development Minister Dr Zola Skweyiya on 12 May 2008 that his department has allocated R124 million in its 2008/9 budget to the SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the provincial departments of Social Development to provide temporary relief to those in dire material need.

The Black Sash called on all SASSA attesting officers to do everything within their power to fast track Social Relief of Distress applications and ensure that the relief is made immediately available to those that qualify.
