Welcome

The National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices (Nadcao) is committed to the development and long-term sustainability of community advice offices (CAOs).

CAOs are small, non-profit organisations that offer free basic legal and human rights information, advice and services to people who are marginalised through poverty, social circumstances and geographical location. They are located mainly in poor and rural communities throughout South Africa.

Nadcao's vision is to ensure that in every community in South Africa, a local resident will have, within walking distance, access to a fully functional and well-resourced CAO. Nadcao has developed an inclusive strategy for the sector, through which it seeks to achieve its vision.

Objectives

  • Facilitate the strengthening of CAOs
  • Conceptualise and develop ideas for the advancement of CAOs and the sector(s) in which it operates
  • Identify, influence and/or support initiatives and interventions that will ensure sustainability of the CAO and the sector in which it operates

This website is not only about the work of Nadcao and its efforts to achieve recognition and sustainability for sector. It also provides an insight into the incredible commitment and efforts of the management committee members, volunteers and staff working in CAOs, trying to improve the lives of people in their respective communities.
